The York Older People’s Assembly was established to address the challenges faced by the city’s aging population. Acting as an advisory group, it collaborates closely with the City of York Council (CYC) and the Hospital Trust to represent the interests of older citizens. Assembly members actively participate in various groups across the city, with designated Champions raising their concerns at both council and hospital board meetings. This relationship ensures that the Assembly’s voice is heard in important discussions and decisions affecting older people, even though meaningful changes may take time to materialize.
The Assembly emphasizes the importance of direct input from older citizens to better represent their needs. They encourage individuals to share their views and concerns, rather than relying on other organizations to speak on their behalf. By actively participating and voicing their own opinions, older people can help bring about positive changes for their community, ensuring their specific needs are addressed in the future.
